My front porch has been my favorite hangout this season. Mainly because we finally finished it and the weather has been so beautiful but also because it’s decorated perfectly for the fall season!
I built this bench specifically for the porch out of treated lumber so it could remain outside year round. Since we do use it for seating, I only used it for a pumpkin and put a small potted mum beside it with some gourds.
Adding gourds and small pumpkins to a lantern is a great way to add color and texture.
Non traditional pumpkins add an eclectic appeal to your porch.
I put a few pieces of indian corn inside a vintage pot. If I had more cash on me the day we bought our pumpkins and gourds, that little pot would be full! You can go wrong with a fall colored blanket and pillow on a porch rocker!
Add more height to your pumpkin display by using a bale of hey and a big flower pot! I also broke a branch off my maple tree to give it a little more height.
I love that mums last through the fall. The trick to getting them to grow year after year is first of all, make sure the tag doesn’t say hardy annual. Obviously, annuals are only good for the season. The second trick is planting them late summer. Their roots take a while to settle in, so planting them in the late fall doesn’t give the root system enough time to make itself at home.
I also love adding potted mums to my seating areas. Its beautiful color and fullness make a boring conversation setting happy!
