True Colors

This family loves to be the host.  With the spacious kitchen and a pool out back, family and friends are always welcome!  Although there was plenty of counterspace, the dysfunctional and aesthetic aspects were failing them.  They longed for something much more lively and practical.

The Design

The most beautiful part of the space was the high cathedral ceilings and beams.  So we wanted to leave that untouched and design the cabinetry around it.  The dark components of the existing wood beam were brought in through wood flooring that the homeowners carried in from the living room.

We were able to close off the awkward space in the corner to create a large pantry.  In doing so, the hood was able to be centered between the two beams with cabinetry flanking each side.  The sink remained in the island but was slid down closer to the center to allow for space on each side.  And the refrigerator and microwave were moved into the work zone for easier access.

The Colors

The rich, vivid hues drew the homeowners in to this beautiful slab of Crema Bordeaux so we were able to use it as our bold focal point and pull neutral colors from it for the rest of the room.  Since the granite is busy showing off all of it’s reds, creams, grays, and greens, we selected a quiet backsplash tile to compliment it.  Ragno’s Eden collection in the color cotone has a subtle variation of cream and gray to do just the job.

Cabinets are painted in finishworks icycle with a gray pinstripe glaze.  Glazing with a pinstripe as opposed to the entire door allows a very simple, clean look highlighted in some areas to give the door a little more depth.  The fancier the door, the more pinstriping can be done.  The island and hood color is finishworks duxbury gray.  It’s a deep gray with some green undertones that contrast the red in the island.

When it comes to custom cabinets, the sky is the limit.  We can final measure cabinets up to 1/8″ so no filler pieces are needed.  Hood designs are countless and customizing the cabinet components and goodies are an added bonus!  This kitchen has a built in paper towel holder above a double trash cabinet.  We also created a deeper wall cabinet to accommodate a countertop microwave.  Spice racks, vertical tray dividers, built in silverware dividers, and pull out shelves are all ingredients we can add to any kitchen recipe!
