This cute, old home was bought years ago by a couple of young newly weds as a starter home. As is with all old homes, this one came with a list of problems. The bathroom was cramped, the kitchen was dated and closed in, the flooring needed replaced, and of course there were a few mechanical issues. Last, but definitely not least, they discovered the front of their home was detaching. Without a second thought, they decided it was time for an addition — a master suite!
It was an easy design decision since the master bedroom was already located in the front of their home. Extending their home out several feet and boxing out the extra space in the recesses on the sides of their home allowed enough space for a walk-in closet, large bedroom, and a master bathroom with a huge walk-in shower–not to mention relocating their guest/kid bath back to it’s original location with a little extra space!
Bathrooms are the second most called on rooms to renovate. They are highly tailored in design depending on the use whether is be a guest bathroom, a very hardworking family bathroom, and spa-like retreat for adults–like this one.
The shower claims the entire width of the bathroom eliminating the need for a door. We chose interceramic spa series for the field tile to keep in line with the white, bright, farmhouse style and mixed a row of glass tile in to break up the design. The floor is a marble look – hexagon tile — still white but with enough veining and variation to pick up the other materials and colors.
A gorgeous granite remnant was selected to cover the seat and the custom vanity. The custom vanity was built locally matching the quality and craftsmanship of the rest of their renovated space. Since we played all the paint colors and tile finishes off of a cool color palette we selected a warm vinyl plank floor with added cool tones for the bathroom floor.
Tons of details and tons of work are poured into bathrooms to make them functional and beautiful. When you factor in the tile installer, electrician, plumber, cabinet maker, and accessories, coordinating the installs and the materials can be tricky. Even though there were a few minor hiccups and last minute material changes through the process this one is rated a perfect 10 on my list!
