Winter Green

For most of us, winter is inconvenient, gray, and depressing.  The sunless backdrop of winter can leave us longing for vitamin D and feeling less energetic.  Finding beauty in winter may take effort, but it’s there.  Afterall, “All things work together for the good of those who love God” (Romans 8:28)All things include school cancelations, ice storms, below 0 windchills, and cold mud producing rain. . Yes, I said it: mud—a bad word to all of us who desire a clean home!

God created seasons and each season serves its purpose.  For me, winter brings calm and rest. While snow and ice can bring delays, traffic jams, runny noses, and shivering, we can enjoy basking in front of a fire, warm food, a more restful schedule, and a cool palette of colors.

Embracing the beauty of the season is key.  One way is by bringing the color green into your home.  It can lift your mood because it is an invigorating and calming color.  Exposure to this beautiful color can have a positive effect on your mental health!  And mixing it with what God has for us in nature can lead us to enjoy this restful season.

Here’s one way to bring green into your home!

This simple and casual arrangement is made from a base of 3 eucalyptus sprays.  Although these sprays are beautiful on their own, I added some icy picks, light blue green foliage with gold glitter and used while berries to fill around the rim.  This short vase ensures it will fit anywhere in your home that height isn’t needed.

I started by sticking the foam core to the bottom of the vessel with painter’s tape and hot glued my dry foam to it.  Then I evenly placed the eucalyptus into the opening at an angle so the bottom of the stems crossed each other.  Sticking in a wintery mix of picks enhances the gorgeous green of the eucalyptus and brings the beauty of winter into your home!
