The wise woman builds her house,
but with her own hands the foolish one tears hers down.
We are back at it! I hope you had time to make that list because today we are going to learn what it takes to build!
The word build in this verse is the same word that God used in Genesis 2:22 Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib. The words made and built are the same word in the original Hebrew language.
Proverbs 9:1
Wisdom has built her house;
she has set up its seven pillars.
Again, we can take the word build and show that it is only through God’s wisdom we are able to build. This wisdom gives us insight to see what we have and how to make it better. But it’s only through seeking God that we can attain this awesome gift.
Hiding in the pages of Exodus we read about a man who was called by God for an extraordinary purpose. It was this man that God put His spirit in to fill him with the knowledge of virtually every artistic genre. He was in charge of the overseeing of all the intricate details of God’s temple and its furnishings. Exodus 31:3-5 and I have filled him with the Spirit of God, with wisdom, with understanding, with knowledge and with all kinds of skills—to make artistic designs for work in gold, silver and bronze, to cut and set stones, to work in wood, and to engage in all kinds of crafts.
And I have great news for you: He put this very same Spirit into us as believing women. We are all called for His extraordinary purpose. Bezalel’s life shows how we can use our creativity – in whichever forms God gives it to us – to serve him when we surrender to His will. Your creativity may not be in gold and bronze or woodworking. It may be cooking, organizing, working with the public, financial planning, medicine or computer programming.
Proverbs 14:1 shows that it IS God’s will that we build our homes. This means that all the resources, talents, and abilities that we need to make our house into a home have already been imparted to us. This doesn’t mean that you should bravely start shoving wood through a table saw or try rewiring your home. But what it does mean is that if we submit our lists to God and prioritize what is on them, that God will provide a means of accomplishing your goal. And when we ask, we must ask with the assurance of him answering. But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind (James 1:6). James goes on in verse 8 to call us double-minded and unstable for praying this way. Those words are not attributes of a wise woman.
His word never fails. God doesn’t speak to us just to hear himself talk but gives us a book full of His promises and His heart for us to have His mind. The one thing God cannot do is lie. Let’s take time this week to talk to God about our lists and continue to speak to us through His word.
Memory verse: Isaiah 55:11 so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.
