Repurposed Shelf

before and after

A cheap wood shelf doesn’t have to look like a cheap wood shelf! This shelf was being repurposed for a bright blue toy room so it needed to be fun! Here are the steps!

1. Remove the shelves and sand everything with 220 grit paper.
2. Prime.
3. Sand with 220 grit paper again.

4. Paint the shelf. I used SW7017 Dorian gray on all the sides and shelves and SW7042 Shoji White on the back.

6. Use a stencil (this one 12.99 + 40% off at hobby lobby) to add color. I used SW6500 Open Seas (to match the walls of the toyroom.)

7. After the first coat is dry, line the stencil back up and add different color to one part of the stencil design. I had lowes tint a valspar sample to SW 6829 for the squares and SW6633 for all of the dots. I use Valspar when I stencil because it peels of my stencil easy. Read my paint recommendations here.

After it’s dry, put the shelves back in.
